Osvaldo Ramirez Castillo
Born in El Salvador on March 16, 1978 and immigrated to Canada in 1989 following the 12-year civil war in El Salvador. He studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design (Toronto 1998-2001) and received a Master’s degree from Concordia University (2004-2007). He currently lives and works in Montreal, Canada. Ramirez Castillo’s allegorical drawings explore issues of collective memory, cultural identity and historical trauma. Using the body as a symbol and a site for trauma, his work is invested with the narrative possibilities that manifest in personal iconography.
